Minerals are necessary for many vital metabolic processes. Those that should be included in a complete multiple vitamin-mineral (MVM) supplement are listed below. Phosphorus is another essential dietary mineral, but it is so abundant in the human diet that deficiencies are virtually unknown. Recent nutrition surveys in the U.S. have found large numbers of people consume too little calcium, magnesium, iron, zinc, and, possibly, copper and manganese.

In the UK we are sadly lacking in Zinc since we stopped buying out wheat from North America and our Selenium level is so low that the World Health Organisation has listed it as critical. Many Cancers found in this country are not found in countries where the selenium level is adequate ( eg Japan and Greenland)
